I wanted to jazz up the space behind my stove with something different, decorative and "me". I came up with project - a bit labor intensive but worth it in the end!!

MATERIALS
Two CD's
Black permament ink (like Ranger Decor-It or Stazon)
Asian embellishments
Several Melting Pots
Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel in several colors including Clear
Copper Zamora Beadz
Wonder Tape Sheets
UTEE FLEX
Embossing Craft Sheet
Kool Toolz
Good paper cutter with a good sharp blade
Cadmium Red Medium Pigment Powder (art stores)

DIRECTIONS

  • I poured UTEE powder in several different colors into 2 individual pots.
  • I took a 1/2 jar of Clear UTEE and added a small amount of Cadmium Red Medium pigment (bought at Pearl Art & Craft. I shook it vigorously until the pigment attached to the UTEE and created my own red colored UTEE. I filled a pot with this red color and added a scoop of FLEX to it.I melted this color in it's own pot.
  • I covered each pot, turned the temp up to a full 340 degrees & allowed all the pots to melt fully.
  • Then, pouring one color UTEE into the other, from pot to pot, I used my Kool Toolz spatula to drag and form a marbeled pattern within one final pot. br>
  • I poured this blend onto my non stick craft sheet in a swirly motion and waited until it solidifed. It remained very warm.To complete this backsplash I had to repeat these steps many, many times, melting a LOT of UTEE !!!<
  • I took it to my paper cutter and sliced it into individual pieces of varying sizes. You must cut UTEE while it's solid but still warm and flexible.

NEXT STEPS - PREPARING THE BOARD TO MOUNT IT ON.

  • Lenny had pre-measured and cut a strong, sturdy board measured to fit the backsplash area with cutouts for the electrical outlets.
  • I placed Wonder Tape Sheets on the entire board.
  • I stamped 2 CD's with an Asian letter design, heated them with a heat gun to soften and cut them to the 1/2 moon shapes that I used.
  • I placed them on the Wonder Tape in the center.
  • Working out from there I arranged and placed my "UTEE Tiles" where I wanted them. I left small spaces between tiles to sprinkle in Zamora Beadz...everything stuck firmly to the Wonder Tape.
  • I added a few Asian embellishments to random tiles using Zap-A-Gap super glue.
  • When it was all done (a month...whew!), Lenny mounted it in a professional manner making sure it stayed up strongly.

BE SURE TO LOOK AT ALL THE PHOTOS...SOME OF THE "CLICK ONS" HAVE THE STEP OUTS.
